The company was founded in April 2001 as Autovision GmbH and on 1 January 2018, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group was renamed Volkswagen Group Services. This name reflects the company’s strategic focus on the Volkswagen Group, its brands and companies.

The Board of Management of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH consists of three members. Each member is responsible for several organisational units and business areas within the company.
Hartmut Rickel was appointed to the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH on 18 December 2017 and has been the Spokesman of the Board of Management since 1 July 2019.
Rickel holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and has been employed at the Volkswagen Group for 26 years.
He was appointed Head of Sales Management for the Volkswagen brand in 2009 after holding several positions in Controlling at Volkswagen in Wolfsburg and in Controlling at Škoda. In addition to his role as Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH, Hartmut Rickel has also been Managing Director of Finance & Controlling for the ice hockey premier league team, the "Wolfsburg Grizzlys", since June 2018. In this role, Rickel acts as a link between the club and its main sponsor, Volkswagen.
Dr. Alexandra Baum-Ceisig joined Volkswagen Group Services GmbH as Managing Director and Labor Director on April 1, 2024.
Her career in the Volkswagen Group began in 2006 after completing her PhD in Economics and Social Sciences, first as a technical specialist advisor and later as Secretary General of the General and Group Works Councils.
Following this, Baum-Ceisig took on leadership roles in various HR departments within the Volkswagen Group before transitioning to Volkswagen Financial Services AG in 2020 as a board member responsible for Human Resources and Organisation.
Dr. Hagen Repke joined the management board of Volkswagen Group Services GmbH on November 1, 2022.
Repke holds a degree in business mathematics and a doctorate while working.
After positions as a consultant at Accenture and leading positions in compliance at Deutsche Bank AG and Daimler AG, Hagen Repke joined Volkswagen AG in 2011 as Head of department risk management and Internal Control Systems (RMS/ICS). Since 2017, he has been responsible for the Volkswagen Group as Head of RMS/ICS.

Originally founded in 2001 as AutoVision GmbH, Volkswagen Group Services GmbH has since undergone very successful growth as a provider of outstanding process services. Let’s look back on the early days:
For the 60th birthday of the city of Wolfsburg in 1998, Volkswagen promised that it would halve unemployment in the near future. Wolfsburg AG was founded in 1999 with the aim of developing long-term economic and employment perspectives. In order to reduce the dependence of the region and its jobs on the automotive industry, the plan was to create additional jobs by attracting new companies to the Wolfsburg area.
The Wolfsburg AG branch led to the founding of AutoVision GmbH for legal reasons as a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG in 2001. Process and HR services could then be provided outside the Wolfsburg region. AutoVision saw rapid growth and success and came to be regarded as one of the most dynamic companies in Lower Saxony.
